This fun and accessible dance conditioning class utilizes the foundational exercises of the Lester Horton dance technique, the core practice of the Alvin Ailey dancers! Emphasis is given to postural alignment, form, and efficiency of movement. Students will develop strength, flexibility, musicality, and proprioceptive skills. Key elements of the technique include Flat backs, laterals, primitive squat, leg swings, coccyx balance, and Egyptian walks. A short dance combination of practiced movements is shared toward the end of class, promoting embodiment and a sense of community. Original drumming compositions specifically arranged for the technique serve as accompaniment for this engaging class.
